Dr. PK Jewel, President and Senior Psychiatrist, Indian Psychiatric Society (Central Zone)
The number of corona patients may have come down but its fear still remains. Some are troubled by financial constraints, some are troubled by illness, while the youth is worried about their career. During the corona epidemic, the problem of depression has increased in 40 percent of the people. This is to say of Dr. PK Jewel, former Professor and Senior Psychiatrist of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur. He said these things during a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar in Prayagraj. Dr. Jewel is also the President of Indian Psychiatric Society (Central Zone). He has arrived in Prayagraj to participate in a three-day workshop of psychiatrists starting from today. He said that 40 percent of people have depression once in their life. It is not that this disease is not cured, only if it is done by a psychiatrist.
Patients are reluctant to go to psychiatrist
It has become a myth among people that after going to a psychiatrist, he will prescribe sleeping medicine, this is absolutely wrong. This is the reason why people shy away from going to a psychiatrist. It is said that sleeplessness is a symptom of mental disease, so some patients are given sleeping medicine. It is seen that a mental patient will go to the doctor of the stomach, will go to the doctor of neuro and get treatment, but will avoid going to the doctor of mental illness. As a result, the patient keeps wandering for treatment.
