The Varanasi unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has recovered 590 kg of ganja, hidden under rice husks loaded in a truck, near the Dafi toll plaza. The recovered ganja was being taken from Raigad in Odisha to Moradabad. Mohammad Irfan, a resident of Swar in Rampur district, and Naugawan’s real brothers Akram Ali and Asif Ali have been arrested along with Ganja. The value of the seized ganja has been stated to be Rs 1,18,00,000.

Hemp stuffed in such a packet was placed between rice husks.
The siege was done on intelligence information
Anand Rai, Senior Intelligence Officer, DRI said that we had received intelligence that a large consignment of ganja was being transported in a truck carrying rice husks from the National Highway connecting Delhi with Kolkata. Based on intelligence, we along with Intelligence Officers Lekh Raj, Mukund Singh and Anant Vikram laid siege near Daffy toll plaza. When the marked truck arrived, the search was started after stopping it. Under the husk, hemp was kept in packets in the middle of the truck.
The three accused in the truck told that they only work as courier boys. They were told that if the consignment of ganja reaches Moradabad safely, then all three will get one and a half lakh rupees. Apart from this, the cost of diesel and food was given separately for the route. They do not know who is the sender and receiver of ganja.

This is the same truck in which ganja was being transported from Odisha to Moradabad.
Ganja was to be sent to Delhi and Punjab
Anand Rai, Senior Intelligence Officer of DRI said that we had caught three and a half quintals of Ganja being taken from Naxal-affected areas of Odisha to Moradabad in 2019. There is a big nexus of Ganja smuggling gang in Moradabad which smuggles narcotics in a very vicious manner. He does not use mobile and till date no accurate information has been found about him. The consignment of Ganja which reaches Moradabad while saving and from there it is sent to different areas of Delhi and Punjab. Our investigation is going on, action will be taken against anyone whose involvement in this smuggling network is exposed.
