In 1980, Kashinath Mishra had won this seat for the last time for the Congress. Vikramaditya Pandey from Janata Party and Janata Dal won three consecutive elections in 1985, 89 and 91. Manju was elected from BSP in 1996 and 2007.

In Ballia Nagar assembly seat with 3.70 lakh voters, Vaish voters are 51 thousand, Brahmins 46 thousand, Yadav 42 thousand, Kshatriya 36 thousand, Muslim 35 thousand and Bhumihar voters are about 12 thousand.
