Public Sector Banks Employees Shortage: Public Sector Banks are facing a huge staff shortage. Due to which the working of these banks is also getting affected. In view of this, the Finance Ministry has called a big meeting with the top officials of all public sector banks on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. In this meeting, the Finance Ministry has asked all the banks to come up with the Monthly Recruitment Plan.
Shortage of stock in public sector banks!
Let us tell you that in public sector banks there is one employee for 1000 customers. Whereas in different banks of the private sector, there is one employee for 100 to 600 employees. From these figures, the shortage of employees in public sector banks can be estimated. In fact, employees have not been recruited in the same proportion as the branches of banks are open in a decade. According to RBI data in March 2021, the number of branches of banks has increased by 28 percent in 10 years and has increased to 86,311. While the number of ATMs has increased from 58,193 to 1.4 lakh during the same period.
41,177 posts are vacant
In the year 2010-11, there used to be a total of 7.76 lakh employees in public sector banks, which has come down to 7.71 lakh in 2020-21. The hiring of clerks and subordinate staff has come down by 26 per cent following the rise in digital usage and ATMs in banks. About 5 percent of the posts in public sector banks are lying vacant. In December 2021, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave this information in response to a question asked in Parliament. The Finance Minister said that as of December 1, 2021, out of the total sanctioned posts in public sector banks, 5 percent i.e. 41,177 posts are lying vacant. The Finance Minister said that according to the information received from public sector banks, 95 percent of the sanctioned posts are filled. The posts which are vacant are lying vacant due to reasons other than the retirement of the employees. The Finance Minister said that till December 1, 2021, a total of 8,05,986 posts have been sanctioned in public sector banks, out of which 41,177 posts are lying vacant.
Most vacancies in SBI
The maximum number of posts of 8,544 bank employees are lying vacant in SBI, out of which 3423 posts are of officers and 5,121 posts of clerk staff are lying vacant. So 6,743 posts are lying vacant in Punjab National Bank, 6,295 in Central Bank of India, 5,112 in Indian Overseas Bank, 4848 in Bank of India.
