Bhagwant Mann has completed the journey from comedian and actor to chief minister. Bhagwant entered politics in 2011. Contested assembly elections in 2012 but lost. He reached Parliament for the first time in 2014 by winning the Lok Sabha elections from Sangrur. Bhagwant Mann was born on 17 October 1973 in Satoj village of Sangrur district of Punjab. His father Mohinder Singh was a science teacher in a government school. He passed away in 2011. Maan’s mother’s name is Harpal Kaur. Sister Manpreet Kaur is a Punjabi teacher in a school. When Mann was seven years old, his younger brother, who was five years old, died of colon cancer.
Mann was married to Inderpreet Kaur. they have two children. The name of the son is Dilshan Mann and the name of the daughter is Seerat Kaur Mann. However, Inderpreet and Bhagwant Mann got divorced in 2015. Now the children live in America with their mother.
Bhagwant Mann has studied only up to 12th standard. After this, in the year 1992, he took admission in Shaheed Udham Singh Government College to do B.Com (B.Com) but the studies could not be completed. Maan is also called by the name Jugnu.
Mann started his political journey with Manpreet Singh Badal’s Punjab Peoples Party. Manpreet Badal is the nephew of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Manpreet floated her own party in March 2011 when there was a dispute in the family over political legacy. At the same time Bhagwant joined this party. In the year 2012, Bhagwant Mann contested from Lehra assembly seat. His election symbol was kite, but Mann’s kite could not fly successfully. He had to face defeat.
