Lucknow: Big news has come before the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh (Uttar Pradesh News). Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary, who has announced an alliance with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, will not contest the UP assembly elections. After the meeting of the National Executive on Friday, Jayant Chaudhary announced that he will not contest the upcoming assembly elections (UP Election 2022). This announcement of Jayant Chaudhary has come at a time when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav have announced to contest the elections.
Economic Times quoted sources as saying that a senior RLD leader, who attended the RLD’s national executive meeting held on Friday, said that Jayant Choudhary would not contest the elections. The RLD formally announced its alliance with the SP in front of party leaders on Friday. A day earlier, Jayant Chaudhary had come to Lucknow to meet Akhilesh Yadav. In a press conference in Gonda, Akhilesh Yadav told media persons that the agreement between the two parties has been finalised.
According to the Economic Times, a leader close to Jayant Choudhary said that the party will contest 24 seats in western UP districts, including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar and Baghpat. Apart from this, eight SP leaders will contest in this area on the RLD symbol. It was also decided in the meeting that ahead of the elections, the party would start the “Gaon-Gali Dastak” program from January 15 to February 12, which marks the birth anniversary of former RLD chief Ajit Singh.
Like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Akhilesh Yadav Yadav, Jayant Choudhary has never contested an assembly election. If sources are to be believed, Jayant Chaudhary may not play any role in the government even if the SP-RLD alliance comes to power, as he would instead seek a seat in the Rajya Sabha. That is, Jayant Chaudhary is planning to go to Rajya Sabha. Let us inform that Jayant had reached Lucknow on Thursday with former Union Minister Sompal Shastri and met him at Akhilesh’s residence.
RLD’s electoral history
If we talk about alliance, then RLD had entered the electoral fray in the 2002 elections in alliance with the BJP. During this, RLD won 14 seats while getting two percent votes. In the year 2007, RLD entered the electoral fray alone. In this election, RLD won 10 seats while the vote percentage increased from two to four. In the 2012 elections, the RLD entered the electoral fray in alliance with the Congress. During this, it won nine seats while getting two percent of the vote. At the same time, once again in the year 2017, RLD contested alone, in which it won 1 seat while getting two percent votes.
