In recent days, there has been continuous opposition to China in Nepal. Chinese Embassy spokesperson in Kathmandu, Wang Xiaoling, has issued a statement on the recent protests against China’s presence in Nepal. He has said that China considers Nepal an important partner of the Belt and Road Initiative and does not place any political conditions for Nepal’s assistance.
The spokesman said that China and Nepal are traditional neighbours. China firmly adheres to the five principles of peaceful coexistence. China respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nepal and develops bilateral friendly relations on the basis of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
Let us tell you that there have been protests in Nepal regarding the increasing influence of China. The protesters are protesting against China with slogans such as Stop Chinese interference, Stop border encroachment and Ensure safe passage for Nepalese students studying in China.
China has said that the two countries have settled the border issue through friendly consultations in the early 1960s and there is no dispute anymore. Foreign officials of both countries maintain communication on border related matters. We hope that the Nepali people will not be misled by individual false reports. Regarding the blockade imposed on Nepal, Xiaoling has said that the Chinese side has opened one-way freight transport to Nepal with great difficulty and has continuously increased the cargo handling capacity of the ports.
