Lucknow. 13 army officers including CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife were killed in the helicopter that crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. There were a total of 14 people in the helicopter and the one who survived is Varun Singh, a resident of Deoria. He is seriously injured and is fighting for life and death. Varun Singh has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra this year for his indomitable courage and bravery. Last year, he saved the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft from crashing due to a technical fault in mid-air.
Varun Singh He is a resident of Kanhauli village of Rudrapur in Deoria district. As soon as the news of the helicopter crash came, there was silence in the village including the family. Till late night, the people of the area kept praying in the temples for his speedy recovery. Today Defense Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament that Group Captain, the only survivor of this tragic accident, has been kept on life support system at the Army Hospital in Wellington. Every effort is being made to save them.

Group Captain Varun Singh displayed indomitable courage and bravery on 12 October 2020 when his Tejas aircraft encountered a technical glitch in the middle of the sky.
