A new chief secretary is going to be appointed for the state before the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Durga Shankar Mishra, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, will be the new Chief Secretary of UP. On the request of the UP government, today the central government sent it back to UP. Mishra can take charge tomorrow i.e. on Thursday. DS Mishra was currently the Secretary, Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
IAS Mishra is retiring after two days. They can get extension of service for six months. His appointment becomes very important in view of the elections in UP to be held in February-March.
What is the story behind the appointment
Assembly elections are going to be held in UP soon. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP leaders were not happy with the current Chief Secretary. It is understood that this appointment has been made for that reason. However, it is being said that the center of the present Chief Secretary is going on deputation. That is why DM Mishra, who retires in exactly two days, is being made the Chief Secretary. It is being said that the government is targeting one arrow and two by appointing DS Mishra as the Chief Secretary before retirement. One will give extension to DS Mishra, which will do a favor and the Chief Secretary will work for the government. Who is Durgashankar Mishra?
Durgashankar Mishra is a 1984 batch IAS officer and is currently working as Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Apart from this, Durgashankar Mishra also has the charge of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. He is the chairman of DMRC. Durgashankar has studied engineering from IIT Kanpur and he hails from Mau district. Durgashankar Mishra has also been the District Magistrate of many districts including Agra and Senbhadra.
