There is no one to take care of those sleeping on the pavement. However, two permanent shelters are operated by the Municipal Corporation in the city. One of these is near Subhash Tirahe and the other near Asafabad railway line. There is a sleeping arrangement for more than 20 people in the shelter near Subhash Tirahe and there is a sleeping arrangement for a hundred people in the shelter built along the Asafabad railway line.
In front of DAV Inter College around 12 o’clock in the night, two youths were seen sleeping under the overbridge. One of them was lying on the ground and the other was sitting near him. These people had neither a carpet to lay nor a sheet to cover. The young man lying on the ground was talking to his fellow youth. Both could not sleep because of the cold.
Sadhus and saints were seen lying under the open sky in front of Maa Rajarajeshwari Kaila Devi temple. He had neither a blanket nor a quilt. These people were forced to spend the night only with the help of sheets. A monk did not even have a sheet long enough to cover his feet. He was seen changing sides frequently.
GM Jalkal and shelter site in-charge Rambabu Rajput said that arrangements would be made to send people sleeping on the footpath to the shelter places. The work of construction of temporary shelters will also be started soon.
