Kanpur: Crores of rupees have been recovered from the house of Piyush Jain, a perfume trader of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. Two names are discussed after this incident of Kubera Kand. The first letter of the name of both is P (P) and both have the same surname – Jain. Not only this, there are so many similarities between the two that both are neighbors living in the same locality of Kannauj, which is known as Jain Gali. The coincidence is so much that both of them do perfume business and before the UP elections, both the names have jumped.
On Tuesday, PM Modi made an indirect reference to the raids conducted at Piyush Jain’s house, in which more than Rs 194 crore in cash was recovered and during his tenure in power on the Samajwadi Party in the whole of UP. Accused of spraying ‘perfume of corruption’. At the same time, Akhilesh Yadav said that central agencies have raided the wrong Jain’s house, which is related to BJP. He said the SP’s Jain is Pushparaj ‘Pumpy’ Jain, an MLC, whose latest perfume he launched last month was called ‘Samajwadi Itra’.
Seen in this way, there are two people at the center of this scandal, who are bound by similar roots but with different stories. The Indian Express quoted sources as saying that while 50-year-old Piyush Jain is a very simple or rather low-profile businessman, who lives a normal lifestyle. It is said about him that he still rides on a scooter. After the recovery of gold and cash from Piyush Jain’s house and on charges of tax evasion, the court has sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. On the other hand, 60-year-old Pushpraj Jain is called a ‘philanthropist’ and politician in Kannauj. They have a petrol pump and cold storage unit. He also earns from agriculture and has a home and office in Mumbai as well.
Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the Kanpur Metro Rail project, Prime Minister Modi referred to the raid on Piyush Jain and said that he (SP) had spread the perfume of corruption all over UP before 2017, in front of everyone. But now they are keeping their mouth shut and are not coming forward to take credit. The mountain of notes, which the whole country has seen, is their achievement and reality.
At the same time, in Unnao, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the real target of the BJP-led NDA government was Pushpraj Jain. When asked about UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s allegation that the money recovered in the raid was related to a trader who makes perfumes for the SP and the party, he said there is nothing bigger than this. Akhilesh Yadav said that it was our MLC Pushpraj Jain, who made perfume for us. They (BJP) advertised through the media that the person who was raided belongs to SP. By noon, the conscious journalists understood that the raider had nothing to do with the SP. Then, he changed his statement as well. In the morning it was in the headlines that ‘Raid on the perfume trader of SP. You must think that the raid was done at the wrong place, ie against his own person. You should get their call details and you will get the names of BJP people.
Referring to the cash found in the raid, he said that they wanted to raid Pushpraj Jain, but accidentally raided Piyush Jain’s house. It looked like the fault of Digital India. It is worth noting that according to the GST officials, during the raids from the house of Piyush Jain, so far Rs 194 crore and 23 kg of gold have been recovered. These have been recovered during raids from Piyush Jain’s houses in Kanpur and Kannauj.
The Indian Express quoted sources as saying that Piyush and his younger brother Ambareesh ran the family business from their parents’ house in Jain Gali. About two decades ago, Piyush Jain moved with his family along with two sons to Kanpur and opened a new perfume business from his residence. After a few years, Ambareesh also shifted to Kanpur with his family. Kannauj Perfume Association President Pawan Trivedi said that we know Piyush Jain and his family. No one in the family had ever contested any election, we don’t know from where they got such a huge amount.
He further said that even after shifting to Kanpur, Piyush Jain and Ambareesh never closed their business in Kannauj. Both of them used to visit Kannauj continuously. We came to know that Piyush has also started a new business in Kanpur to supply raw material to pan masala manufacturers.
At the same time, Pushpraj Jain was elected as MLC from Etawah-Farrukhabad in 2016. He is the co-owner of Pragati Aroma Oil Distillers Pvt Ltd. His business was started by his father Savailal Jain in 1950. Pushpraj and his three brothers run a business in Kannauj and live in the same house. MLC Pushparaj has a house and an office in Mumbai, from where it deals with exports to around 12 countries mainly in the Middle East. Two of his three brothers work in the Mumbai office while the third one works with him on a manufacturing set-up in Kannauj.
According to his election affidavit in 2016, Pushpraj and his family have movable assets worth Rs 37.15 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 10.10 crore. He has no criminal record and studied till class 12 at Swaroop Narayan Intermediate College in Kannauj. Speaking to The Indian Express on Friday after the raids started, Pushpraj had said that I have nothing to do with Piyush Jain. The common thing is that Piyush Jain is from the same community as me. If raids have been conducted against him, he will deal with it himself.
