Thiruvananthapuram, The Government of Kerala has made it clear that Students Police Cadets (SPC) cannot be allowed to wear Hijab and full sleeve shirt. It cannot be made a part of SPC uniform. The Government of Kerala has given this decision on the application of Riza Nahan, a student of 8th standard of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Kuttiyadi, Kozhikode.
According to the news agency ‘ANI’, Riza Nahan had earlier petitioned the Kerala High Court. But the court asked him to apply to the government. Considering this, the government said, ‘If this demand for SPC is accepted, then similar demands will start arising from other forces as well. It will not be in line with the secular character of the state. Therefore, wearing of any religious symbol cannot be allowed.
Let us inform that SPC is a project started by Kerala Police in schools. It is being implemented jointly by the Home and Education Department. It is also supported by Forest, Transport, Local Self-Government and Excise departments. Under this project the children of high school level are trained to be the future leaders of the democratic society. They are trained to obey the law, discipline, civic values, empathy, etc. So that they can help the needy sections of the society and come forward for the end of social evils.
Through SPC Project, youth are also taught how to discover and develop their inner abilities. So that they can be able to stop negative tendencies like social intolerance, anti-incumbency violence, etc. Through this training, they are also given scope to increase, strengthen their commitment towards family, society and environment.
