The state government has also given the status of metropolitan city to Gorakhpur. There is also a preparation to run light metro here. There is only one step away in running the light metro in Gorakhpur, that is, as soon as the CCA committee of the Central Cabinet will approve it. Work will start for the construction of Light Metro in Gorakhpur. A detailed project report of Rs 4589 crore has already been sent for Light Metro in Gorakhpur. The UP government has already made a provision of Rs 100 crore for metro trains in Gorakhpur and Varanasi in the budget.
Preparations are being made to run three coach light metro in Gorakhpur city. RITES and Lucknow Rail Metro Corporation had prepared the DPR. Two routes have been fixed for the metro. The first route will be 15.14 km long, which will be from Shyamnagar to Madan Mohan Malviya Technological University. There will be a total of 14 stations on this.
The second route will start from Gulriha. Which will go till Naushad. There will be a total of 12 stations on this route. With the announcement of the metro project, the work on raising the budget had started. On behalf of the government, the local bodies of Gorakhpur were asked to contribute Rs 200 crore. Out of which Prem Ranjan Singh, vice-chairman of Gorakhpur Development Authority has said to give Rs 50 crore. At the same time, the Municipal Corporation and Housing Development Council had expressed their inability to give money.
