Till some time ago, there used to be a lot of dirt in the Dharamshala with water. It used to smell so much that people did not even go near it. What was the reason for this filth, the water of many drains of the city. Because the dirty water of many drains was diverted to this stepwell Under the smart city project, the water of these drains has been diverted elsewhere.
Beautification work started
After this, the work of beautification was started around the water dharamshala. Beautiful paintings were made on the walls. Two fountains have been installed in the middle of the stepwell. Along with this, lighting has also been done around the stepwell. Proper seating arrangement for the tourists. Along with this, a dice has also been made so that people can move around the stepwell.
History related to Peshwa Bajirao
Dharamshala with water also has historical importance. In 1729, when Raja Chhatrasal lost the war to the Mughals, he called the then Maratha ruler Peshwa Bajirao I for his help. Peshwa Bajirao came here with 20 thousand soldiers and he freed Raja Chhatrasal from the Mughals. Raja Chhatrasal As a thank you to Peshwa Bajirao, one-third of his state was gifted. Then Peshwa Bajirao sent one of his ministers to look after Jhansi and its surrounding areas. That minister first took out the Mughals living in the Jhansi fort and then got the fort expanded.
This is the story of the name Dharamshala of water
During the expansion itself, the Peshwa’s eyes fell on this stepwell, which was the only source of clean water at that time in Jhansi. No. That’s why the name of this stepwell is water Dharamshala. Although Dharamshala is not here now, but even today this step is known by the same name.
