Four-time champion team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are almost out of the race for the IPL 2022 playoffs. In this season, she has won only 7 out of 10 matches so far. Change of captains was also the reason for CSK’s poor performance in the 15th season of the league. Before the start of the season, Dhoni left the captaincy of CSK and Ravindra Jadeja was given the command of the team. But Jadeja also gave the captaincy back to Dhoni after consecutive defeats. However, it is too late now and CSK’s exit looks set.
Meanwhile, former Team India opener Virender Sehwag feels that CSK made a mistake by appointing Jadeja as the captain at the start of the league. He said that if Dhoni had remained the captain from the beginning, CSK would not have lost so many matches.
Sehwag told Cricbuzz after CSK’s defeat on Wednesday, “The first mistake he made was early in the season when he announced that Dhoni would not captain and Jadeja would be the new captain of the team.” It was a wrong decision. No playing XI was fixed. Rituraj Gaikwad did not score runs in the beginning. They started poorly, the batsmen didn’t score runs and from there, things got worse. If Dhoni had remained the captain from the beginning, then CSK might not have lost so many matches.
In 10 matches of this season, Jadeja has so far scored just 116 runs at an average of 19.33 while taking five wickets at an economy rate of 7.52. He suffered a 13-run loss against B.C., which was his seventh defeat. CSK have just six points from 10 matches and the team is almost out of the tournament.
