Whatsapp said in a statement that it has banned more than 18 lakh accounts in India in the month of March in compliance with the new IT Rules 2021. Let us tell you that earlier in February, WhatsApp had banned 14.26 lakh Indian accounts.

The social media company’s monthly report said that under the new IT rules that came into force last year, digital platforms with more than 5 million users are required to publish compliance reports every month. This report contains the details of complaints and action taken on them.
According to the report, between March 1 and March 31, 2022, WhatsApp has banned 18.05 lakh Indian accounts for being misused.
Indian accounts were identified through +91 phone number. WhatsApp said that it received a total of 597 grievance reports from across the country in March 2022 and action has been taken against 74 of them. Whatsapp said that over the years, we have continuously invested in artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies, data scientists and experts and processes to keep our users safe on our platform.
A spokesperson for Meta-owned company Whatsapp said that as mentioned in the latest monthly report, the company has banned more than 18 lakh accounts in the month of March.
