New Delhi. Muhammad Sharif, popularly known as the Messiah of unclaimed dead bodies, was awarded the Padma Shri on Monday. He was honored by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Social worker Muhammad Sharif, who has cremated more than 5 thousand unclaimed dead bodies, is the person who could not perform the last rites of his son. Being hurt by this, it was decided that now whether there is a Hindu or a Muslim, the dead body of anyone will not remain unclaimed. He will perform the last rites of everyone. Since then he has performed the last rites of 3 thousand Hindus and more than 2 thousand Muslim people.
Muhammad Sharif, a resident of Ayodhya, was awarded the Padma Shri on Monday. Talking to News18, Muhammad Sharif said that 25 years ago his son had died in Sultanpur, so no one performed his last rites. Since then I have decided that now whether Hindu or Muslim, I will do the last rites of everyone myself. After this he started the funeral procession and since then I have cremated the unclaimed dead bodies of 3 thousand Hindus and about 2 thousand Muslims.
Muhammad Sharif told that he is very happy to get Padma Shri. His work was appreciated by the people and he was respected by the government. This boosted their morale even more. They will continue to do work in the same way in future also.
Sharif uncle told that he does not get any kind of government help for this. He collects money from the public and performs the last rites of the people. He told that initially people used to make fun of him, but then later people started respecting him. Got such a big honor for which everyone is thankful.
Muhammad Sharif told that the Prime Minister and the President met yesterday and also talked. Never thought I would meet such great people. We have also asked the Prime Minister for help from the government in this work and a house for ourselves, for which we have got assurance from him that he will be helped by the government.
