- Tight police arrangements since early morning
Pimpri: The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has taken action to relocate the slum dwellers of Ambedkar Nagar slum in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Nehru Nagar (Nehru Nagar) under heavy police arrangements, keeping the protest of the local people at bay. . About 150 police officers and employees of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police and State Reserve Police Force have been deployed for this action. This action created an atmosphere of tension in the area.
Ambedkar Nagar Slum is near Annasaheb Magar Stadium in Pimpri. The police had put up barricades on all roads leading to the Ambedkar Nagar slum from 5 am to conduct evacuation operations here and a police force was also deployed there. Eight to ten JCBs and eight to ten small and big tempos were deployed on the Zero Boys Chowk road from Santoshi Mata Chowk. had knocked on the door of the High Court
SRA officials said that the slum rehabilitation plan for Ambedkarnagar was announced about three years ago. More than 70 percent people have agreed to implement this scheme. Thereafter 3(c) notification was issued and no one objected to it. Hence the final notification was not issued. Thereafter the notification of eviction as per 3(d) was delayed. People complained about this to the Shikhar Grievance Redressal Committee, but it was rejected. So the local people approached the High Court. On 29 July 2022, the High Court dismissed his petition. They were given 15 days to approach the Supreme Court, but they are yet to bring the stay order. So today’s action is being taken.
Local citizens expressed pain
Protesting this action, local resident Suman Kasbe told that she has been living here for 50 years. Police and SRA officials are here since 5 am asking us to vacate our houses. No one has had tea or breakfast here since morning, we are all hungry. Local resident Ibrahim Sheikh said that he too has been living here for 50 years. He has a four-room house here and I live with my family. He questioned that since we have been given only one room, then how can such a big family be in it? Local resident Umesh Bansode told that there are 97 houses in Ambedkar Nagar. Yesterday at 3 pm we were given a notice to vacate the house within 48 hours. This is illegal action and requested to stop it. But the action continued.
no one listens to us
50 to 60 children of our basti go to the Municipal School in nearby Vitthalnagar. 50 to 60 children go to other schools. Now these schools are away from the transit camp. Local resident Arjun Gaikwad said that SRA officials have constructed a transit camp for us in a drain area near Yashwant Nagar. There is an empire of filth everywhere. We have been given a tin room, but in the morning they have put cement plaster on the floor below. Bribes and snakes live here. Locals are filling the tempo by bringing material in sacks from their homes. These tempos are going to the transit camp with the material of the people. There is no one to listen to us.
