It is dated June 2, 1995. The SP-BSP coalition government was in the state. A meeting was being held at the State Guest House to break the BSP alliance. SP MLAs and supporters arrived. Started beating. Picking up the BSP MLAs, they started filling them in the vehicles. Misbehavior with Mayawati. He imprisoned himself in a room. After 4 hours, when the room opened, there was such a stigma on the forehead of the politics of UP, which could not be erased till date. Today we will talk about the character and story of politics in the same guest house incident.
What happened on June 2 at Mirabai State Guest House, Lucknow did not happen suddenly. Its script was started writing 1 year ago. In such a situation, let’s start the story not directly from that day but from that script.
To stop the BJP, the SP-BSP united and formed the government.
When the Babri Masjid collapsed on 6 December 1992, the central government dismissed the Kalyan Singh government. Elections were held in 1993. The leaders of SP and BSP, aware of the popularity of BJP, decided that they would contest the elections together. Mulayam Singh fielded candidates on 256 seats. 109 won. Kanshi Ram fielded 164, 67 of them won. The BJP had got 177 seats, which was far from the majority figure of 212. Keep in mind that at that time UP-Uttarakhand were one and the number of seats was 422.

SP and BSP together formed the government. In the beginning the government was right. The Mandal Commission report, support for reservation for Dalits and backward castes in government jobs and educational institutions was the principle thread to connect the two parties. After the formation of the government, Kanshi Ram handed over the responsibility of UP to Mayawati and himself started expanding the party in other states.
Calling CM and waiting for him, then Kanshi Ram went to meet wearing a lungi
In the book ‘Behenji’ written on Mayawati’s life, Ajay Bose writes, “Kanshi Ram never used to go to meet Mulayam. His insistence was that Mulayam Singh should come to meet him in the guest house of the state. When Mulayam used to come, Kanshi Ram used to come half-and-half. He used to wait for hours. In the end, wearing a vest and lungi with great carelessness, he used to come down. The media cameras used to increase Mulayam’s hesitation.”
If BSP lost in Panchayat elections and SP won then the distance increased
Panchayat elections were held in the state in 1995. SP won 30 out of 50 districts. Only one seat came in the hands of BJP in 9, Congress and BSP on five. It became clear from this result that the SP-BSP alliance benefited only from the SP. From here the dispute between the two parties deepened. On the one hand, Mulayam Singh started turning the BSP MLAs into his side. On the other hand BSP started coming in contact with BJP.

Now let’s talk about the guest house scandal.
On the basis of threats and beatings, try to make MLAs in your own hands
On 1 June 1995, Mulayam Singh got the news that BSP was going to withdraw support. Mayawati, meeting the then Governor Motilal Vora, has proposed to form the government with the help of BJP. Mulayam turned red with anger. Got BSP state president Ram Bahadur in his court. 15 more MLAs also accompanied him. But to avoid the anti-defection law, one third member is needed, that is, 8 more MLAs were needed.
Ajay Bose explains, “Since Kanshi Ram was in the hospital, Mulayam Singh was sure that the government would continue. Because many BSP MLAs were already in their pockets. But when it came to withdrawing support, it was decided that more BSP MLAs should be intimidated and made in their court.
Mayawati was having a meeting when Chamar went mad that the voice started coming.
On June 2, 1995, Mayawati was holding a meeting with party MLAs and MPs at Mirabai State Guest House in Lucknow. At that time she lived in room number 1 of this guest house. All the MLAs were sitting in the common hall. It was four o’clock when 200 SP workers and MLAs reached the guest house. His first line was, “Chamar has gone mad.”
Mayawati was holding a meeting with the MLAs at the State Guest House when SP workers attacked.
picked up the MLAs and started throwing them in the car
The SP workers were abusing abusive words. Most racist. The BSP MLAs wanted to close the main gate when a furious mob broke it. After this BSP MLAs started being beaten up with hand-kicking and sticks. During the beating, the MLAs were being signed on an affidavit to support Mulayam Singh. The MLAs got so scared that they started giving signatures on the blank paper. Five BSP MLAs were forcibly made to sit in the vehicle.
Mayawati locked herself in a room
Misbehavior with Mayawati. He ran away and locked himself in a room. Besides him, there were two other people in the room. One of them was Sikandar Rizvi. The rioting people started banging on the door. They were saying, “Drag the Chamar woman out of her den.” From inside, Sikandar Rizvi put the sofa and table near the door so that even if the chutney broke, the door could not open. Pagers were in vogue at that time, the administration was informed. Senior officials reached the spot.
SSP was smoking cigarettes instead of taking action
Ajay Bose writes, Lucknow’s Superintendent of Police OP Singh was present when this incident was happening in the guest house. Instead of action, he was just seen smoking a cigarette. After some time the electricity and water supply of the guest house was stopped. He was also accused of this.
The order of the government was that there would be no lathi charge on the MLAs.
SP Rajeev Ranjan along with the District Magistrate got involved in getting the guest house vacated. First they expelled those who were not MLAs. After this, when he started expelling the MLAs, there was an argument. The order of the government was that the MLAs should not be lathi-charged. But the situation was such that force had to be used. From 9 o’clock to 11 o’clock in the night, the governor’s office, central government and senior BJP leaders intervened in this matter and a heavy security force reached.
The next day Maya became the Chief Minister.
When the heavy police force arrived in the night and Mayawati felt that she was safe now, then she came out of the room. On the question of who saved Mayawati, senior journalist Sharat Pradhan says that there is no merit in claims like BJP leaders saved. When this incident started, a large number of media reached here. The people of SP wanted to remove but the media did not move. On June 2, Mayawati became the Chief Minister of UP at the age of 39.
When Mayawati became the Chief Minister, the then PM Narasimha Rao called it a miracle of democracy.
Last thing about Mayawati’s changed dress
Maya never wore a sari after the guest house incident
Before June 2, Mayawati was often seen wearing a sari, but after this incident she never wore a sari. People who were present at the time of the incident say that at that time the hands of the miscreants had reached Mayawati’s sari. But he did not discuss any such incident in his autobiography, nor did the book-writers write on him.
