Mumbai: The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road is being extended through MMRDA to deal with the problem of traffic jam at BKC from Kurla route. Elevated corridor is under construction for direct connectivity to Bandra-Kurla Complex and Western Express.
About 75 percent work of this project with East-West connectivity through SCLR has been completed. Well the project is divided into two phases. One part of the four-lane flyover will go towards Kurla and the other towards BKC. This work was started in 2017. The work has been delayed due to land acquisition and other problems with the Defense Ministry. The project cost is around Rs 415 crore.
Heavy traffic on Kurla-Kalina road
During peak hours there is heavy traffic on CST Road, BKC Road and Kalina Road. There are a large number of junk shops here. There is also heavy traffic in BKC Business Hub. SCLR expansion will solve this problem as well as remove the traffic bottleneck. Part of the elevated road passes through Raksha Bhoomi adjacent to the Western Express Highway in Vakola. MMRDA has also sought permission for land acquisition from the Union Defense Ministry for this.
