In the year 1980, the Tyagi case came to the fore in Baghpat. Ishwar Tyagi, a resident of Ghaziabad, had come to attend a wedding near Baghpat with his two companions and wife Maya Tyagi. His car got punctured in Baghpat. While fixing the car, Ishwar Tyagi and his associates got into an argument with Narendra Singh, an SI posted in Baghpat. Narendra Singh left at that time. After some time he returned with some of his fellow policemen. Narendra Singh shot and killed Ishwar Tyagi and his two companions. Ishwar’s wife Maya Tyagi was paraded naked in the whole market. Later many cases were registered against him. It was alleged that the policemen also raped Maya. After this episode, the anger of the women’s movement erupted, the mass movement intensified. Its echo had reached Lucknow and Delhi.
Rajnarayan continuously raised the issue
Rajnarayan used to constantly talk about women’s rights. Rajnarayan, a strong supporter of socialism, fought for women’s rights. Because of this, whenever there was a protest on a controversial issue, Rajnarayan was invited in it. Rajnarayan is seen in Indian politics as Ram Manohar Lohia’s Hanuman. He also raised this issue vigorously regarding women’s rights. But, his biggest feature was that he did not compromise on his principles throughout his life. When he died on 31 December 1986, people realized his popularity. Thousands of people were on the streets in his funeral procession without being called.
Rajnarayan became so popular
Rajnarayan was known for his assertiveness. Whatever happened in the UP Vidhan Sabha on March 4, 1953, is recorded in the pages of history.
