New Delhi. The Congress, the country’s oldest party, is currently facing a direct challenge not only from internally but also from regional satraps who have left the party. On the one hand, the leaders of G23 are sounding the bugle of rebellion within the party, while on the other hand leaders like Sharad Pawar, Mamta Banerjee, Jagan Mohan Reddy, Amarinder Singh, who have left the Congress, are also ready to spoil the hopes of the Congress. The leaders who left the Congress are the biggest obstacles in the path of the Congress, which sought power after fighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024. The Congress is simultaneously facing the challenge of Modi and the once ‘own’ leaders.
Cotton is not cotton, weavers have stilts. This saying fits well with the opposition parties. The confrontation has started on the question of who will compete with Narendra Modi in 2024 among the opposition parties. After the results of the by-elections, on one hand Mamta Banerjee is shouting to take on Modi, and on the other hand Jagan Mohan Reddy is also attacking the Congress. While Captain Amarinder Singh has announced to challenge the Congress by forming a new party, Sharad Pawar is also not giving a green signal to Rahul Gandhi regarding the leadership of a possible alliance.
Allegations of regional satraps, Congress is not showing stamina
These days, all these parties have their own objections regarding the leadership of the Congress in 2024. These parties are accusing the Congress that it is not doing the seriousness and speed with which the largest party of the opposition should come out on the streets to face the Modi government and regional parties have taken the lead. The Congress, however, denies these allegations. Sandeep Dikshit says that if these parties are challenging the Congress, then why is Congress added in their name?
Mamta Banerjee created trouble
In fact, Mamata Banerjee’s dream of making TMC a national party and becoming an alternative to Congress has created trouble for the Congress. Apart from West Bengal, Mamta is grabbing the vote bank of Congress and Congress leaders in states like Assam, Tripura Goa. Not only this, Mamta is including the leaders of Uttar Pradesh in her party.
Sharad Pawar also leaves no chance to show the mirror
On the other hand, Sharad Pawar may be running the government with the support of the Congress but does not leave any chance to show the mirror to the Congress. Jagan Mohan Reddy is also angry with the Congress. Amarinder Singh has even announced to defeat the Congress in Punjab. The Congress knows that it is weak, so its allies are trying hard.
Therefore, the question of who will lead, she avoids for the time being. General Secretary Tariq Anwar says that the issue of leadership will be resolved later, for the time being the opposition parties should try their best to win the 2024 elections.
What strategy is Congress working on?
Rahul Gandhi, who is working on a coalition strategy to beat Modi in 2024, has realized that the opposition will not accept his leadership if his party is not strong. That is why the Congress has geared up to stand on its own feet in every state and the decision to fight alone in Bihar without succumbing to Lalu’s demand was a step in that direction.
Big victories in Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan by-elections have shown the way for Congress to move ahead on its own. Congress will now talk of alliance on one hand but on the other hand it is working towards claiming natural leadership by becoming the largest party of opposition in 2024
