Prayagraj. Hearing was held on the applications of the state government to cancel the bail of Mohammad Azam Khan, SP MP from Rampur and former cabinet minister, lodged in Sitapur District Jail. Advocate Nasira Adil, on behalf of Azam Khan, filed a Vakalatnama and sought time to file the reply in three weeks. Accepting this, the High Court has directed to present all the applications together for hearing on March 22. This order has been given by Justice Rajiv Gupta of Allahabad High Court. While hearing the applications filed by the state government for cancellation of bail granted to Azam Khan in a dozen cases.
Earlier, the court had directed Azam Khan to serve notice to him through the jail superintendent if the lawyer did not appear. The court had asked Azam Khan whether he would keep his own lawyer or the court should appoint an amicus curiae on his behalf to present his side. After this, the advocate informed about the filing of Vakalatnama of Azam Khan and appeared along with senior advocate NI Jafri and sought time to file the reply.
The next hearing of the case will be on March 22.
Significantly, applications have been filed on behalf of the state government demanding cancellation of bail granted to Azam Khan in a dozen criminal cases. The court had said that it is clear from the case letter that the notice issued to Azam Khan has been received by him. But no lawyer was hired on his behalf.
