The prestige of the party and the government is at stake due to being the home board of CM Yogi Adityanath.
The Gorakhpur Sadar assembly seat has been occupied by saffron for the last 33 years. A total of 8 elections were held in these 33 years, out of which 7 times BJP and once Hindu Mahasabha (with the support of Yogi Adityanath) The candidate has won. In the year 2002, Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agarwal won from this seat under the banner of Hindu Mahasabha but only after winning he joined BJP. And he has been winning from this seat continuously since then.
