In the main market of Karhal, Syed Emraan Hashmi, a zealous SP worker, said with enthusiasm that Akhilesh Yadav does not even need to come here for campaigning. We are enough to win them. There is Jain Inter College in front of the market where Mulayam Singh Yadav studied for five years and taught in this college for two decades. The Principal here wishes that Akhilesh Yadav should go to the District Collectorate for nomination from here on January 31. An SP leader told that here it is a one-sided matter. Akhilesh Yadav will have a bumper victory from here.
Mulayam’s relationship with the college here for two decades
Karhal falls in Mainpuri district. Mulayam Singh Yadav has been an MP from Mainpuri for a long time. Yudhveer Narayan Dubey, principal of Jain Inter College, enthusiastically leads the News18 team to the classroom where Mulayam Singh Yadav used to teach political science. Showing the paper, he said that Mulayam Singh Yadav had taken admission in class 9 in this college in 1955. He passed out in 1963 and came back here as a teacher only in 1963. After this he resigned from here in 1984 but the mind and heart always kept beating here. They still keep asking how the college is doing.
Claim of benefits on hundred seats
SP’s district secretary Sunny Yadav told that Akhilesh will win here by more than 1.5 lakh votes. The name will be in the Guinness Book of World Records. Sunny Yadav is confident that Akhilesh’s contesting from here will benefit the surrounding 100 seats. In Firozabad, Farukhabad, Etah, Etawah, Kannauj districts, it will directly benefit the SP. Dharnidhar Jain, manager of Jain Inter College, told that earlier also this seat was VIP because of Netaji and now it has become the biggest VIP seat due to Akhilesh fighting from here.
Mulayam’s dominance for three decades
The Yadav community is the largest in Karhal. Mulayam Singh Yadav has dominated here for three decades. Sunny says that his family’s grandfather Chaudhary Nath Singh was the political guru of Mulayam Singh Yadav. In 1967, Chaudhary left this seat for Netaji. Chaudhary saw the quality of wrestling in Netaji and taught the spinning wheel. Karhal is just 10 minutes away from Saifai, the native village of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Although the local people raised the issue of unemployment, stray cattle here, but most of the people talked about voting for SP.
