Agra. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been given permission by the UP government to go to Agra. As soon as she got permission, she left for Agra. Earlier, he was detained at the entry point of the Agra Expressway. On this, Priyanka Gandhi had tweeted that ‘Arun Valmiki has died in police custody. His family is seeking justice. I want to visit family. What is the Uttar Pradesh government afraid of? Why am I being stopped.’
After Priyanka Gandhi was taken into custody, the political temperature of UP started rising. After this, permission was given to go to Agra to meet the relatives of the person detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police. Earlier in the day, Gandhi was stopped on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. Section 144 was imposed in the area. Police officials told news agency PTI that the Congress general secretary was stopped after the district magistrate of Agra had requested not to allow any political personality to go there after the man’s death. Responding to this, Gandhi told ANI, ‘They say I cannot go to Agra, wherever I go they stop me. Should I be sitting in the restaurant? Just because it’s politically convenient for them? I want to meet him, what’s the big deal in this?”
“Whenever I try to go to any place other than the party office, they (administration) try to stop me. This is also causing inconvenience to the public. Gandhi was trying to meet the family members of a man named Arun Valmiki, who was accused of stealing Rs 25 lakh from Jagdishpura police station. He died in police custody after his health deteriorated during interrogation. Agra Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muniraj told PTI that the accused suddenly fell ill on Tuesday night when his house was being raided to recover the stolen money. “He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” he said.
