The pain of farmers in UP was spilling before the elections. Live report of amar ujala.com.
Although there are many districts of Uttar Pradesh in Terai, but Lakhimpur and Pilibhit is one such district which is situated in the foothills of Himalayas. The name of a small town surrounded by the forests of Dudhwa in Lakhimpur district is Mailani. There is good production of paddy and sugarcane in the whole area. But the farmers are neither getting the full price of paddy crop nor are they getting payment for sugarcane. The leaders of the ruling party of this area know this pain of the farmers but there is no cure. However, after Varun Gandhi raised this problem of farmers, some MLAs of the area not only take responsibility for the responsible officials, but recently a ruling party MLA even held him hostage due to non-payment of old payment to the sugar factory officials. Had taken. When the team of Amar Ujala.com talked to the farmers of this area, their pain came to the fore.
The farmers said that paddy is not procured at the paddy purchasing center. There was some expectation from the payment of the sugarcane sold, even then the sugar factories do not pay it on time. Overall, no one is listening to the farmers or solving their problems.
Hanspur alone is a village near Mailani
This village is on the border of Lakhimpur, Pilibhit and Shahjahanpur districts. Harbans Singh, a farmer of this area, says that in the past, the rain caused a lot of damage to the harvested paddy crop. According to Harbans, when he reached the paddy purchasing center to sell his paddy crop, he was returned saying that your paddy is wet, it will not be bought. The government has fixed the rate of 1940 per quintal for farmers to buy paddy. So the Harbans wanted their paddy to be purchased at this purchasing center. Because if this paddy will be sold to any middleman or rice mill, then the price of their paddy will be only eleven to twelve hundred rupees per quintal. That’s why he kept pleading at the paddy purchasing center but his paddy was not bought. As a result, he went to a rice mill and sold his paddy at throwaway prices.
The pain of the farmers spilled
Om Prakash Verma, a farmer of the village, says that there is such a tight system in the government papers that you cannot sit far away and raise any question on the system. But the reality is quite the opposite. He says that why the cane arrears have not been paid yet. They say that we are small tenants. If our sugarcane is not paid, then from where will we get the money for the next crop. He says that even a small amount of money was spent this time in transporting sugarcane. Because diesel was expensive, due to this the tractor fare was increased. The savings that were to be made from the sugarcane crop were also spent in these expenses. There is no hope of getting your money from above. Showing the paddy crop, he said that our standing crop in this field was filled with water, in some way taught the paddy and after drying, when it was taken to the purchasing center, the paddy was rejected by the purchasing center. He says that at first he was told that the paddy is wet. As soon as it was proved that the paddy is not wet by fighting, then from the purchasing center, the paddy was returned as broken. Then the farmers quarreled at the paddy purchasing center, then they were returned saying that there is blackness in the paddy. They say that when natural calamity came, we had no means to save the standing crop or the harvested crop. He said that in such a situation, by taking a little more laxity, the government should not only help us farmers but also clear instructions should be given at the purchasing center.
Had the tag of being the biggest sugar factory
The Bajaj Hindustan Sugar Factory at Gola Gokarnath Kheri in Lakhimpur district once held the title of Asia’s largest sugar factory. Today, farmers are not getting their dues in the sugar factory crushing lakhs of tonnes. Due to non-payment of dues of farmers, farmers even started a sit-in demonstration at Bajaj Sugar Factory. The local MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party took the officials hostage by the sugar factory for non-payment of farmers. Anoop Shukla, a farmer of village Kapraha, who takes his sugarcane to the Bajaj Hindustan Sugar Factory, says that since September, no payment has been made to the farmers in the sugar factory. Diwali passed like this. Bhai Dooj also passed like this. But even after the assurance of the sugar factory officials, the farmers are not being paid. Along with traditional farming, Anoop also believes in modern agriculture and other crops are also grown. Therefore, they have an idea that the central government has also released an additional amount of 42 thousand crore rupees on the route of the state government for payment to the sugarcane mill owners. All Anoop Shukla says that why the farmers are not being given dues even after getting so much extra money. And raise the question that in fact the farmers are not getting the payment due to the poor management of the government.
