New Delhi. The number of Internet users in India is increasing rapidly. There were 646 million internet users in India as of December 2021. The special thing is that in India, the number of people using the Internet in villages is 20 percent more than in cities. Not only this, the rate of increase in the number of women using the Internet in the last two years has been more than that of men.
These facts have come to the fore in a survey called India 2.0 Internet Study by Nielsen, a data and market research firm. The firm included 110,000 members from 27,900 households across the country in this survey. This survey was done from September 2021 to December 2021. According to the survey results, 60 percent of India’s rural population is still not using the Internet. At the same time, 59 percent of the urban population is using the Internet. There are 294 million active internet users in cities.

According to a report by Livemint.com, the number of active internet users above the age of 12 years has now reached 592 million. This has increased by 37 percent as compared to 2019. Active users have increased by 45 percent in rural areas and 28 percent in cities. In the last two years, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of female internet users and they have left men behind in this matter. The number of women using the Internet has increased by 61 percent in two years, while the number of men has increased by only 24 percent in this period.
According to a Nielsen survey, 90 percent of users use the Internet daily. People of 50 years of age or more are also not behind in using the Internet. 81 percent of the people in this age group surveyed admitted that they use the Internet. Mobile phones are being used the most in the country for running the Internet.
Most used for these works
The maximum use of the Internet in India is for social networking and chatting. Watching videos and listening to music online are also included in the top 5 uses of the Internet. Even though internet usage in villages is 20 percent more than in cities, urban population is ahead of villages in terms of online banking and digital payments. Two thirds of urban people in the age group of 20 to 39 years use online banking.
