Former India opener Virender Sehwag hopes that he will now play the role of Sachin Tendulkar for Team India after Virat Kohli quit the captaincy of Team India’s T20 team. Sehwag said that Sachin played with many captains. He shared his thoughts with him as a senior, be it Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid or MS Dhoni. Sehwag believes that Kohli will also play a similar role in the future.
Speaking on a Cricbuzz show, Sehwag said, “India has got a new captain and a vice-captain and because Kohli will be around them, he will definitely give his suggestions, which he thinks is right.” Look, Tendulkar also played for so long and did the same under so many captains. He used to share his ideas with the captain all the time and then it was up to the captain to implement it. That’s why when he said that he and Rohit have been leaders for a long time, it was good. They will help the youth and the captain.
Sehwag further explained the importance of making a young player the vice-captain. He revealed that when MS Dhoni was made the captain and vice-captain in 2007, he asked the BCCI to hand over the responsibility to a young player. But the board heeded to his request. KL Rahul has been named as the vice-captain for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.
