The name of Dr. Abdul Jalili Faridi is not a new name in the politics of UP, but people have definitely forgotten him in the passing times. There was a time when Dr. Faridi’s party, AIMM was the first to raise the voice of the interests of Muslims and Dalits.
Majlis had also distributed the literature of Jyotibaphule by going among the OBC-SC castes in North India. This party gave 20 MLAs to UP with one minister at the centre. Although even today this party is working on its principle. Most of the advocates are still associated with this party. This party was active in UP till the year 1990. Later the party could not give an MLA. It is also told that Azam Khan had also contested the elections under the banner of this party but had to face defeat.
AIMM’s Wasi Ahmed, who is contesting from Bareilly’s Bithri seat, said that the Congress took forward the Muslim League to abolish the Muslim Majlis in 1974, after which the Majlis ended. BSP national president Kashi Ram also did politics with Faridi.
